Spray Painting is a convenient way to add a splash of color to your project. It is available in almost any color you want and can be purchased in your hardware store, in specialized stores or online directly on our website:  PCL Training in Haverfordwest. Using spray paint may seem simple, but if you are not familiar with this process, the results may be disappointing. Here are some tips and tricks to make your painting look as beautiful as you want.

Basic techniques of spray painting

First, make sure the surface to be painted is clean, free of rust and debris, and smooth. Any bumps or imperfections on the surface will be visible through the paint. So use sandpaper or steel wool to clean and smooth the surface, then use a lint-free cloth to remove the remaining dust.

Start with a  spray can of paint  at room temperature and shake it for 3 or 4 minutes to mix the paint well. Do not shake the bomb too much, but not enough! Remember to shake the canister occasionally while you are painting.

Press on the tip of the spray while moving away from the surface, aiming for one side, then, in a fluid movement, sweep the paint horizontally on the surface and release the spray when you reach the other side. Use your whole arm to move the bomb, not just your wrist, and be sure to start spraying before reaching the surface, and release it after passing it.

For a large area where several passages are necessary, slightly overlap your passages. Several light coats, allowing the paint to dry in between, will look much better than a single thick coat. The different paintings dry at different rates. So read the instructions on the back of the spray can for drying times. Be patient, apply several coats of light, smooth paint (usually at least three), and your paint job will look professional.

Paint small objects

If you are painting something small, it is sometimes better to use a paint booth to limit the over spray and improve the result.

You can install a makeshift paint booth using a cardboard box on the side. By placing the object on a turntable, you can rotate it without touching it so you can paint from all angles. It is a way of doing things that will really improve the end result of your project. It can avoid disappointment after applying the paint.

Do your outdoor work

Spray paint fumes can sometimes be toxic depending on the spray, and inexpensive dust masks offer very limited protection. Be sure to spray paint in a well-ventilated area where paint vapors will not accumulate. It is therefore preferable to do your work outdoors to avoid problems.. So you can safely use no masks.
